alcohol-related fatalities: 17,419 - 41% of total
fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled (VMT): 1.51
rollover fatalities: 10,666
motorcycle fatalities: 3,244
large truck fatalities: 5,111
child fatalities: 968
pedestrian fatalities: 4,808
2.92 million injuries
highway crashes cost society $230.6 billion a year, about $820 per person.
also, when a big car gets in a fatal accident with a small car, the big car is much more likely to kill people in the small car.
data analysis:
if you increase your statistical odds of causing a traffic fatality, you are a ticking time bomb of a terrorist. that's right, if you speed, talk on your cell phone, drive under the influence, run red lights, etc., then you are a terrorist. when you tell me that you speed because you are a good driver and it is appropriate under the conditions, all i hear is an ideology of hate. i hear you say that you hate my freedom and the laws of the united states of america. you hate my freedom enough to kill me with your automobile.

data analysis:
the number of deaths in iraq isn't a big deal. think about how many people will die because of the inadequate supply of influenza vaccinations. think about the number of people who die smoking-related deaths. the september 11th world trade center casualties are not a big deal.
